Stephen Issa, Principal

Following a successful career in research and development in the automotive industry, Stephen Issa accepted an invitation to do international development work in the Peace Corps. For nearly three years he taught community groups in Guatemala how to build fuel-efficient, wood-burning stoves made from natural materials. State-side, Stephen worked for the agency as an area representative, conducting recruitment campaigns on college and university campuses.

In 2001, Stephen began his third career teaching at a two-way language immersion elementary school for English and Spanish in Detroit, Michigan. In 2004, he joined the McKinney Independent School District, first at the elementary level and later joining the staff at Serenity High, where in addition to his teaching duties, he fills the role of Recovery Coordinator and organizes the school’s community outreach program.

Stephen has received an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology from the DeVry Institute of Technology, a BS in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University, and M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.

“I liken the field of education to a tree with many branches, each one offering something distinctive to one’s interest and talents, and my experience at Serenity High has served to foster this belief.”
